A S. Giacomo lungo il sentiero delle leggende

Questo sentiero vi farà scoprire un gioiello prezioso della Val Gardena, la chiesetta di S. Giacomo.
Le leggende raccontano che un giovane gardenese, il conte Jakob von Stetteneck, la fece costruire in mezzo al bosco dopo il suo ritorno da Santiago de Compostela come segno di ringraziamento per essere tornato a casa sano e salvo, dedicandola a S. Giacomo, santo protettore dei camminatori.
Il punto di partenza è la chiesa di S. Cristina, nelle cui immediate vicinanze si segue un sentiero nel bosco che porta alla chiesetta. Lungo il percorso sono stati collocati 16 cartelli, realizzati dalla scuola elementare di S. Cristina, che spiegano la leggenda del conte Jakob attraverso testi e immagini. La passeggiata fino al maso "Festil" di S. Giacomo é prevalentemente pianeggiante (solamente 40 m di dislivello) e da lí si intravede la chiesetta nel bosco, che si raggiunge, quindi, percorrendo una ripida ma breve salita.

Secondo testimonianze storiche, la chiesetta di S. Giacomo é la chiesa piú antica della valle, poiché le sue origini risalgono al lontano 12° secolo. Di notevole rilevanza storico-artistica sono gli affreschi gotici del presbiterio e i dipinti del 16° secolo vicino al pulpito, che raffigurano una parte della leggenda di S. Giacomo.

Dieser Weg führt zu einer bedeutenden Sehenswürdigkeit Grödens, dem St. Jakobs Kirchlein. Der Legende nach ließ der junge Grödner Graf Jakob von Stetteneck diese nach seiner Rückkehr aus Santiago de Compostela, als Dank am Leben geblieben zu sein, mitten im Wald errichten. Er widmete sie dem Hl. Jakob, Beschützer der Wanderer.

Ausgangspunkt ist die Pfarrkirche von St. Christina. Kurz hinter dieser beginnt der Waldweg, der zum Kirchlein führt. Entlang des Weges stehen 16 Tafeln, die von Schülern der Grundschule St. Christina mit Zeichnungen und Texten über die Legende des Grafen Jakob gestaltet wurden. Ein sehr geringer Höhenunterschied (lediglich 40 Höhenmeter) bestimmt die Tour bis zum Bauernhof "Festil" bei St. Jakob, von dem aus man schon das Kirchlein sieht, das man über einen steilen aber kurzen Anstieg erreicht.

Der Überlieferung nach ist das St. Jakobskirchlein die älteste Kirche des Tales, ihr Ursprung reicht ins 12 Jh. zurück. Von relevantem kunsthistorischem Wert sind die gotischen Fresken im Presbyterium und die Wandgemälde aus dem 16. Jh. neben der Kanzel, die Szenen aus der Jakobslegende darstellen.

Along the path of legends to San Giacomo

This trail lets you discover one of the most memorable points of interest, the S. Giacomo church. According to the legend, a young local inhabitant, Count Jakob von Stetteneck, let it build in the middle of the woods in gratitude for coming back alive from Santiago de Compostela. He dedicated it to Saint Jakob, the protector of all hikers.

The path starts at the church of S. Cristina. Directly behind it, it goes through the woods and leads to the small S. Giacomo church. Along the way there are 16 information boards, which have been arranged by the pupils of the elementary school of S. Cristina. Their drawings and texts explain the legend fo Count Jakob, The walk until the old "Festil" house in S. Giacomo is very comfortable (40 m altitude difference only) and once reached this place, you already see the church and after a steep but short ascent you are in front of it.

Walking time: 1 hour and 10 minutes 

Tradition holds that the S. Giacomo church is the oldest one of the whole valley, since its origin goes back to the 12th century.

In historic-artistic terms, its gothic frescos in the presbytery and the paintings from the 16th century near the pulpit, which represent scens of the legend, are valuable and unique.
