HIGHLIGHTS SUMMER 2011


Artisans market in S. Cristina with presentation and sale of traditional South Tyrolean products - from July 12th to August 30th 2011 every Tuesday from 8pm

There is a lot to see and discover when artisans from Val Gardena and South Tyrol display their traditional art and when farms showcase and sell their homemade products.

At the market in the pedestrian area of S. Cristina you can admire the artisans at work and buy numerous handmade objects and homemade products:

- carving and decorative painting art from S. Cristina,
- buttermaking and hay decorations made by the farmwomen of Val Gardena,
- handmade art craft products made in the sheltered workshops Locia and S’Ancunté,
- the work of the turner,
- carpets, blankets, pillows and other objects made of pure sheep’s wool,
- belts and wallets with traditional quill embroidery,
- handmade cardigans and socks,
- South Tyrolean speck (bacon) of the butchery Eschgfäller in S. Cristina,
- “Hauspotschn” (slippers) made by Mrs. Stauder,
- honey and beeswax candles made by the Riffesser family,
- homemade schnaps from the Fischer farm,
- dried fruit from the Obergostner farm,
- natural vinegar and apple juices from the Bühler farm,
- fruit and vegetables from the Gedrin farm,
- jams and syrups from the Petrunder farm,
- medicinal plants and teas from the Pfleger farm,
- fresh cheese from the Brunner farm.

Musical entertainment will not be missing either; moreover the bars and restaurants of the pedestrian area will propose delicious traditional dishes and drinks!



S. Cristina village festival on July 16th and 17th, 2011
The traditional festival in S. Cristina will be celebrated this year on July 16th and July 17th, 2011. On Saturday evening different concerts will be organised, where local music bands will show their skills. On Sunday at 9 am the Holy Mass will be held at the Parish Church, with a musical interlude by church choir and orchestra of S. Cristina.
Afterwards there will be a folklore parade which crosses the village centre and will reach the Iman Center, where the S. Cristina music band will give their traditional concert. The afternoon will also be characterized by music concerts and folkloristic dance performances.

Festival in the pedestrian area on July 22nd, 2011

Enjoy an evening summer walk through the centre of S. Cristina.. especially don’t miss the evening of July 22nd,2011! Starting from 7 pm, the bars and restaurants along the pedestrian area will propose a wide choice of desserts, strudels and other culinary delicacies as well as drinks and cocktails.

Different bands are going to entertain the evening and a nice surprise is waiting for our little guests, we are all looking forward to see you!

Summer festival in S. Cristina – 30th and 31st July, 2011
To celebrate the summer, the fire brigade of S. Cristina organizes like every year the traditional “Summer festival”.

The festival begins Saturday evening at the Iman Center with an open-air rock concert and continues on Sunday with a rich program of music entertainment and folklore dancing. Don’t miss the traditional parade where will take part the music band, the folklore dancing group of Selva/S. Cristina and the artisan group of S. Cristina. The parade will cross the village centre on Sunday at 4pm.
We invite you all to take part at this traditional day in S. Cristina!

Lantern Festival on August 12th, 2011
On August 12th, 2011 S. Cristina’s little guests have a valid reason to be happy: the lantern festival takes place!

At 8 pm the plushie Bobby entertains all kids with games, music, dance and a lot of fun. Afterwards, at 9 pm all children get a colourful lantern and will walk though the pedestrian area of S. Cristina, giving so a magical atmosphere to the village centre!

Ladin culinary, cultural and sculpture weeks in S. Cristina from September 4th to 25th, 2011
Culinary delight and tradition, these are the keywords for the beginning of autumn in S. Cristina. The Culinary, cultural and sculpture weeks in S. Cristina enliven the village. It is already the 21st edition of these special weeks taking place this year from September 4th to 25th, 2011.
During these three weeks, the restaurants and mountain huts of S. Cristina offer extraordinary autumn menus with specialities of Val Gardena and South Tyrol, accompanied by high class South Tyrolean wines.
After the big success of last year, the culinary excursion from hut to hut is going to be organised again, this year every Friday. These excursions take you to different mountain huts, at each stop you can enjoy a typical Ladin dish.
The woodcarvers of S. Cristina demonstrate their ability in this traditional local art working on wooden sculptures of about 2 m, which will then be placed into the World’s largest hand-carved nativity scene in the Iman Center.
The highlight of the Ladin culinary, cultural and sculpture weeks is the concert of the most famouns folk music group of Val Gardena, “Die Ladiner”, the winners of the popular “Grand Prix der Volksmusik”, which will take place on Sunday September 18th, 2011 at the Iman Center in S. Cristina. The festival starts at noon and continue all afternoon long, besides the concerts there will many other performances and the Association of Hoteliers and Restaurateurs of S. Cristina organize the catering with typical local dishes.
Moreover, a multi-vision show with the known alpinist and photographer Valentin Pardeller is on the program. He presents his most stunning pictures of the nature preserve Puez-Odle and of the Dolomites.

In order to present further aspects of the valley’s culture and tradition, concerts of local music bands and folkloric evenings will take place. Don’t miss the popular Mountain Festival on September 25th, 2011, at the Fermeda chapel on the Mastlé Alp. Part of the rich programme will be the performance of the Male Chorus Sasslong, the association for traditional costumes and the dashing fellows “Goaslschnöller”.
