This year the Funpark Piz Sella in Val Gardena shines in all its glory yet again, not at least because it has been one of Europe’s top snowparks for the past 15 years. The riders of the South Tirol Slopestyle Tour wanted to see for themselves and so, last Sunday they payed the snowpark a vist. Naturally, we didn’t let the opportunity slip and attended the session with a camera crew. Apart from that we can now tell you more about the current setup, which is designed and maintained by Schneestern.
The Funpark Piz Sella is finally established within the freestyle scene of the Dolomites. 15 years ago only a few boardercrossers showed their moves here. In 1994 the first snail was built by hand and today the park offers freestyle fun for everyone. We got hold of Igor Marzola, who is the owner of the Comici ski-lift and who has been supporting the project from the very beginning.
Hi Igor! What is your personal highlight in Funpark Piz Sella and how would you describe the local rider scene?
The ‘snail’ is one of the coolest things in the Funpark Piz Sella. The beginner park guarantees a lot of fun as well! The local scene can be divided into two groups: one group is dominated by tourists and the second consists of a few easy guys who ride on a high level. There’s still room in the snowboard scene, because only about 15% of all riders here are snowboarders.
What was going on in the park at the South Tirol Slopestyle tourstop?
Sunday was perfect. At the Slopestyle Tour, kids can participate too and they had tons of fun. But all other participants were enthusiastic too. After all, the weather was picture-perfect and the park was in a very fine condition.
Sounds like in the Funpark Piz Sella it’s all in the name, not least because of the sensational setup. The Funpark Piz Sella offers the right Line for every rider. With its 6m Butterbox, its funwave and its awesome snail the Funcross is perfect for the whole family. The beginner line comprises 6m jumps, a Kinked Butterbox and a Kickerbank. The rail and boxes lines offer a 6m Rainbowbox, a 8m Flatbox and a 6m Wavebox. And for even more adrenaline there is the proline: with a 10-20m Kicker, an Industry Uprail, a 7m Kinked Box and a 6m C-Box.
As a special highlight this year we await the finals of the South Tirol Slopestyle Tour on the 1st April in the Funpark Piz Sella! With the current clip from the last tourstop gives us a first hint at what’s to come. Our shooting tour across Dolomiti Super Freestyle continuines. You can find online the FOTOS and VIDEO.
