On the 7th January, we spent an awesome day of pure freestyle at the Funpark Piz Sella in the Italian Val Gardena valley. Located at an altitude of 2,158 metres just under the magnificent massif Langkofel Group and directly on the ski circuit called Sellaronda, the Funpark Piz Sella is designed for families and beginners, but it also offers many obstacles designed especially for pros. This year’s innovations include a bigger park, its length was extended from 550m to 750m. This change allowed the addition of a big kicker and three jumps of different sizes, a 5m sliding tube, a 5m tank and the so called “Smiley”, an element which resembles the rotating target of the medieval joust. This year anew, you will find many different boxes and kickers, the red car jib and the snow tunnel with the snail shape.

Carolina Bagnato, the photographer of our media crew, briefly describes the film day to us.

“The day at the Funpark Piz Sella was fun and productive, the weather was sunny but a bit windy. We met in the park with some local freeskiers and some snowboarders who came with us. The majority of the tourists was on the funcross, so that we had the kickers all to ourselves. Moreover, all riders who were shredding in the park were supportive and eagerly collaborated with us, we are really satisfied with the film result”.

Awesome! What did you think of the park this year?

“Compared to last year, it improved a lot, the kickers’ shape was perfect and the area for beginners is better marked from the pros’ one, so that everybody can try safely his line. The most striking element is definitely the snow tunnel, but all elements have a flawless shape”.

Freeski has a tradition in the Val Gardena valley, and for this reason, the local skiers are really good. Especially for them, two events will be held in the park in occasion of the “Bank The Future South Tirol Slopestyle Tour”, a contest for freeski rookies up to 18 years. Two of the five tour stops will take place at the Funpark Piz Sella, on the 20th January and on the 7th April 2013. The winner of the contest will win a year’s sponsorship and a starting spot in the Qparks Freeski Tour Final.
