THE RACE IS ON FOR FINAL RACE NUMBER 2012

The charitable auction for the final race number will get under way at 17.00 on Tuesday 28th February when Assisport Alto Adige presents financial support packages to more than 60 young local sporting talents. Luis Durnwalder, in his capacity as President of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano will officially declare the auction open. Indeed the sum raised at auction will be given in favour of the Association Assisport Alto Adige.

Selva Val Gardena (BZ), 27.02.2012 – An authentic boom in registrations for the Südtirol Sellaronda HERO means that registrations are closed and no more race numbers now remain. True, except for the number 2012 that will be put up for auction from tomorrow. In fact the event celebrating the initiative and being organised by Assisport Alto Adige will see Luis Durnwalder, in his capacity as President of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, open the charitable auction and at the same time hand over to 61 young local sporting talents cheques to assist them in continuing their pursuit of sporting success.

Tomorrow at 17.00 in the inner courtyard of the Provincial building number 1 of Via Crispi 3, Bolzano President Durnwalder, accompanied by Walter Ausserhofer, President of Assisport Alto Adige and Julia Innerhofer as testimonial of the action, will annouce the auction for race number 2012 – coinciding with the race year – open, and bids may be made through the Facebook pages of the Hero. Bids may be placed up until the 15th June in an attempt to win the final race number. The sum raised at auction will be given in favour of the Association Assisport Alto Adige, the Association which for 25 years has supported south Tyrol’s young sporting talent.

Lending their names in support of the initative are Julia Innerhofer from Colnago MTB TEAM and Gerhard Kerschbaumer from the TX Active-Bianchi team, two young mountain bikers keen to contribute in any way they can to promote the Association which assisted them in the past.

So all attention will soon be focused on race day, Saturday June 23rd when the third edition of the Südtirol Sellaronda HERO will take place and 2012 riders from no fewer than 25 countries will compete. The adage states that you do not change a winning formula and therefore the two routes which have already entered mountain bike folklore will remain the same: the super tough one of 82 kilometres (with 4,200 metres of altitude difference) and the second ‘easier’ one of 50 kilometres with ‘only’ 2,600 metres of altitude difference. Both start and finish in the centre of Selva, which is located at a height of 1,653 metres asl. Also of interest are the collateral events such as HERO KIDS, ideal for tomorrow’s future champions and the Sellaronda Bike Day on Sunday 24th June when thousands of cyclists enjoy the Dolomite roads which cover the four famous passes and which for this special post-HERO day are closed to all traffic.
